The following is a review of the Century Voltedge Sports Endurance motor for the Century Swift. This is one of the motors that comes supplied with the Swift in the UK and is billed as a sports flying motor.
Introduction
The VoltEdge sports motor is an inrunner designed to run on 14.8 V.
This is one of the standard motors that can be supplied with a combo deal on the Century Swift. This motor is primarily aimed at the beginner to model helicopters. It has a KV of 1365 and when paired with an 8T pinion (as supplied in the kit) it will provide a maximum head speed of around 1600 RPM.
In practice this motor is happier running slower than 1600 RPM which allows for some extra torque to be available when increasing pitch for climb out performance. After some experimentation I ran this motor at between 1400 and 1500 RPM.
Flight Performance
The Swift when running at this relatively low head speed is really quite docile but also some stability is lost from running this relatively slow head speed. Climb out on a 4S pack is not fast but is adequate for basic sports flying. I did however feel a little uncomfortable performing any type of aerobatics with this head speed. There was some noticeable bogging of the motor during climb out and the head speed dropped further.
Flight times using the supplied FlightPower 4S 3700 mAh were around 10 minutes. Peak current during my test flights was 47 amps. The average amp draw being around 13 amps. This is well within the specification of the pack and would not cause any longevity or stress problems for the pack. At the end of ten minutes flying the motor was quite hot and I wouldn't recommend consecutive flights without a short cooling off period.
The below picture shows the data recorded using a DPR-100 in-flight data recorder.
Conclusion
This motor is ideal for the beginner to model helicopters as it provides good flight times well witihin the amp draw capabilities of the supplied pack. I'm not sure 'sports' is an accurate description but 'endurance' is accurate, performance was fairly soft and docile and headspeed relatively slow for this size of machine. Overall as a beginners motor it provides fairly soft power and good flight times.
